- "There was also a strange elf clad in green and brown, Legolas, a messenger from his father, Thranduil, the king of the elves of Northern Mirkwood." [src]
Legolas (Sindarin: Laegolas, Quenya: Laiqualassë; "Greenleaf"), son of King Thranduil, is an Elven prince of the Woodland Realm of Northern Mirkwood and member of the Fellowship of the Ring. With his keen eyesight, sensitive hearing, and excellent bowmanship, Legolas serves as a valuable resource to the other eight members of the Fellowship. He develops a rivalry with Gimli the Dwarf, and the two become close friends, which is unusual due to the traditional mistrust between their races.
